Welcome to The Ohio State University Testing Center! We provide testing for a wide variety of exams, including National Testing, Credit by Examination, MAT, Correspondence, and many more computer-based offerings. For your convenience we have fast and secure online registration for the exams listed below. Click on the appropriate link to register online.

PAYMENT OPTIONS
The payment options for registering online are Visa, MasterCard, or electronic check. All online registrations are final and no refunds will be given. Exams that require an additional payment at the time of the appointment may be fulfilled by check or money order only. Cash or credit card will not be accepted. Please refer to the Administration Fee in each exam’s description for acceptable payment options.

DISCLAIMER: Exams created by University faculty are 1 hour and 48 minutes in length unless otherwise noted. There are no refunds.

American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)

Formerly proctored from the Department of Teaching and Learning, ACTFL administrations are now available in the Testing Center. Students from other institutions should contact their respective institutions.
 

Autumn Semester Proficiency Test (ASPT)

Autumn Semester Proficiency Tests are for INCOMING FRESHMAN ONLY.  Uperclassmen should see EM test below.

Registration Information

Autumn Semester Proficiency Tests have no administration fee.
Students must be sure to register for the correct test based on their placement level or prior Math credit. This information can be found on the Math Department’s website.
You must schedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance of your test date.
Arrive to your test 15 minutes early. You will not be allowed to test if you are 30 minutes late. Students arriving late will not be allowed time that has already passed.
Only non-graphing calculators are permitted for Math 1050 and 1075. A graphing calculator without a QWERTY keyboard (ex: TI-84) is allowed for use on the rest of the tests, but you must justify all of your work to get credit. Cell phones and other electronic devices are prohibited.
Students unsure about which test to schedule should contact the Math advisors.
By 5:00PM the next business day, only those students who have passed their tests will receive an email from the Math Advisors at their OSU student email accounts.

Class Quizzes

New to the Testing Center are class quizzes!  Professors can elect to send their students to the Testing Center to take a quiz and/or test. This should be noted in your class syllabus as to when the quiz will be available to take. These can be computer-based or pencil and paper.  This is NOT the same as a make-up test.  Please scroll down to sign up to take an in-class test you missed. 

CSE 2221

Course concerns component-based software from the client programmer’s perspective.  The CSE 2221 Placement Exam is designed to assess a students’ readiness for these topics.  Passing this test fulfills the prerequisites to enroll in CSE 2221, passing this test DOES NOT get you credit for CSE 2221.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Registration and Exam Fee

CLEP administration fee: $30 payable to Ohio State during the online registration process.
CLEP examination fee: An account must be created on the College Board website. This is where the examination fee of $80 will be paid. This process will provide a Ticket ID that must be brought to your appointment.
All CLEP exams are offered on computer only.
This location is an “open” CLEP testing center, meaning Ohio State students and non-students may complete a CLEP exam at this location and send scores to Ohio State or to any other accredited college or university.
The Credit by Examination Brochure lists the current required scores and credit awarded for CLEP exams completed by Ohio State students.

DSST, Correspondence Exams, and Proctoring Services

The Ohio State University Testing Center participates with many institutions of higher learning as a Correspondence testing center in both paper- and computer-based formats. Prospective candidates should contact their host institution to verify this Testing Center as an acceptable location.

Registration and Exam Fee

Correspondence administration fee: $25 per hour, payable to Ohio State by check or money order on the day of the exam. Certain Correspondence Exams are $50, payable online during the registration process.
Candidates should have their host institution send exam materials to the Testing Center before scheduling an exam. To find out if your exam materials have been received by the Testing Center, send an email to esue-testing@osu.edu or call (614) 292-2241.

Examination Mark (EM) 
Examination Mark (EM) for Veterans

EM Tests are constructed by Ohio State faculty members and administered by the Testing Center.
Registration and Test Fee

EM Test Administration Fee: $60 payable to Ohio State during the online registration process.
If a requisite is listed for an EM Test, students may be asked to provide written evidence of having met that requirement.
Some EM Tests require departmental referrals. Make sure referrals are obtained before scheduling a test. There are no refunds.
Students beginning their first semester at Ohio State are not permitted to take EM Tests until the semester begins (the first day of class).
EM Tests are offered for currently enrolled undergraduate students. Graduate students are ineligible from receinving credit for EM Tests.  They may be allowed to use an EM test as a requirment for a higher course. Please consult your advisor for details.
EM Tests are offered year-round, including academic breaks.
EM Tests are not repeatable.
Receiving a mark (U, W, any grade, etc.) for a course makes students ineligible to take the EM Test for that course.
Students may take EM Tests before the first Friday of the semester even if the student is currently enrolled in the course. Student cannot take the EM Test after the first Friday of the semester without first dropping the course. This enrollment restriction does not apply during academic breaks.
Students unsure about their eligibility or academic history should contact their advisor prior to scheduling a test.

Note: Departmental Exams are scheduled through their respective departments, NOT the Testing Center.

Make-Up Exam

Testing Center staff administer and store all exams in a secure, monitored environment. This service is only available to students on the Columbus campus.

For students: Student Information Sheet

Exam Scoring and Credit: The Testing Center will send Make-Up Exams back to faculty to score. The Testing Center can also send exams to Exam Scoring Services to be scored if a key is provided with the exam materials and the instructor has an account open with Exam Scoring Services. Posting of credit is the responsibility of the academic department providing the exam.
There is no fee to students or academic departments for Make-Up Exam administration, but if Exam Scoring Services is scoring the exam, the instructor's department will be charged the standard scanning batch fees.

Please make sure that the Testing Center has received all exam materials before scheduling an exam.

Miller Analogies Test (MAT)

Registration and Test Fee

MAT administration fee: $75 payable to Ohio State during the online registration process.
Prospective candidates should download and review the current MAT Candidate Information Booklet.

Placement Test

Registration and Test Fee

There is no fee to students.
Some Placement Tests require departmental referrals. Make sure referrals are obtained before scheduling a test.
If you are on campus for Orientation, limited same-day space may be available for Placement Tests. Contact the Testing Center for more information.
Students who have already started classes need to contact Math Advising in order to obtain a referral before scheduling a Math Placement Test.
Math Proficiency Exams for specific classes (Math 1050, Math 1075, etc.) are available for selection under Examination Mark (EM).
The Latin Placement Test is the only language placement test administered by the Testing Center. All other language placement tests are administered by their respective departments. You can find more information about language placement tests in the Credit by Examination Brochure.
