Intro to Mig & Flux Cored Welding - Paulding

The purpose of the 72 hour, hands on, course is to provide participants with an opportunity to learn the basics of structural steel welding using GMAW (Mig) and FCAW (Flux Cored) welding process to obtain an entry-level job in the welding industry.  Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Forklift Certification Card and up to five American Welding Society (AWS) Qualifications and a Non-Credit Certificate of Completion from Chattahoochee Technical College.

 

Module 1 - Forklift Certification

¨    Forklift Safety & Awareness

¨    Preventative Maintenance & Inspection 

¨    Proper Loading & Unloading/Lift Selection

¨  Maneuvering/Backing

¨  Battery Care, Recharging & Refueling

¨  Operation of a sit-down counter balance lift

 

Module 2 - Gas Metal Arc Welding & Flux Cored Arc Welding Equipment 

¨  Safety Practices

¨  Welding Power Sources

¨  Wire Feeders, Guns

¨     Identify Spray Transfers, Globular, Short Circuiting and Pulse

¨  Equipment Set up for GMAW and FCAW equipment & tools

¨  Filler Metals

¨     Written Exam & Performance Test

 

Module 3 - GMAW & FCAW Structural Steel Welds

¨  Overview and Multi Pass Performance of GMAW &FCAW Welds

¨     Usage of Solid & Composite Wire and Shielding Gas

¨     GMAW-S (short circuit) fillet welds on carbon steel plate coupons in the           following positions (1F, 2F, 3F,4F)

¨  FCAW-G/GM (gas shielded) fillet welds on carbon steel plate coupons in the following  positions (1F, 2F, 3F,4F)

¨     FCAW-S (self-shielded) fillet welds on carbon steel plate coupons in the following  positions (1F, 2F, 3F,4F)

¨    GMAW Spray Fillet Welds on carbon steel plate coupons in the following                          positions (1F and 2F)

 

Course Qualifications & Certifications             

¨      Forklift Certification Card

¨      AWS D1.1 Structure Steel Welding

¨      Welder Performance Qualification Record (WPQR)

¨      GMAW-S 3F & 4F

¨      FCAW 3F & 4F

¨      GMAW (spray) 1F & 2F

 

* Students will have the opportunity to take each of the Welder Performance Qualification Test but depending on their skill level, they may not be successful on every qualification.

*Fee includes welding apron, gloves, helmet & boots

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

  • If CTC deems it necessary to cancel a class or testing session for any reason, you will be able to receive a full refund or transfer to another class date or testing session, if available.
  • Requests for refunds made at least 5 business days prior to a course beginning are subject to a 3% processing fee.

  • There are no refunds for requests made less than 5 business days prior to a course beginning.
